That sucks majorly. Not that I hate the built-in browser... But I just hate that Android isn't playing nice.

Not that it's really that they've done anything wrong, either... It's just their MO to want things to be their way - even if it is "open source".

They should just release it outside of the marketplace, in my opinion. Nothing's stopping them as far as I know.

Pretty upsetting, already sad enough that theres no multi-touch. And the fact that when you try to view some websites it cuts off some images or doesn't scroll down all the way, misses some text & important stuff to view on the page. Also the default web browser isn't even google's "chrome" browser which i thought would of been on the G1 but i've always liked mozilla and hoped they'd make a leet web mobile brower. I'm a bit sad, i'd like to see some new stuff out there. I want to see what people can bring to the table. Hopefully in the future it'll come about.

lol honestly... with open source.. does it matter whether or not Google likes it or not?

With open source even Mozilla can make an app for the android platform... and charge maybe something or even nothing at all... and google can't stop them...

the problem here really is Frennac doesn't want to make a app that uses java... like everyone else... they prefer to make it the way they want to on Android vs to make the app the way Android needs them to make it...

Why does it matter if it's in Java or not? Maybe if they have a proprietary software design and don't feel like developing the software to directly work on Android... well ya I can understand... but that's just being annoying...

If Mozilla knows there will be a lot of Android based phones out in the market.. they are better off making an app for Android like everyone else to get in on new platform available... rather than haggling and discrediting Google's intentions...

Im also not to happy to know that firefox won't be making its way to the android os. Oh well. We still have other web broswer's to choose from, Like Opera and Skyfire let's hope one of thoes mobile broswers make there way to the android. Keep your fingers crossed that Skyfire makes it's way to the android before any other browser does. I can deal without Firefox. I've beta tested skyfire on my T-Mobile dash that runs the windows os and i loved everything about skyfire.

Chrome isn't needed for amdroid because the built in browser uses the same engine as Chrome. It would be redundant

The G1's built in browser is lacking allot and the functionality is not the best.

The fact is that the android platform market is so small and not allot of developers want to take the time and develop an application and not expose it as much as they can.

Android just needs to put it its time and soon enough we will see all the developers want to make applications for android.
cant put this damn phone down...

Are you sure you can create a program without Java as part of it? The Java layer is the sandbox they are using for security and system requirements- am I wrong?

The author of Smartgear on the WM also says that you must adhere to the Java layer or the program will not work in the current OS. That is why we will not see MAME, Smartgear or any other emu on the G1 anytiime soon.

Unless the OS is broken, and no company is going to do that.
