I'm liking the phone...it looks like it would be a marginal upgrade for G1 users: bigger battery, more RAM (though not quite as much as I'd like to see), way more ROM, higher res (and presumably better? camera, 3.5 mm headphone jack, light & proximity sensors, and it of course keeps the keyboard (which is a must for me)...
Only thing I'm not liking is the same old processor and screen (screen is same res., but actually even a little smaller than G1). It seems like, over a year later, this would be more of a lateral move than a move up for us. I can't wait for some truly next-gen. phones based on Tegra/Snapdragon, higher res. screens, much more RAM, etc...
But I would say, for anyone not under a contract or coming up in the Fall, this would be a no-brainer over the G1. Good job, Moto. I hope it goes well for them.
Lastly: I know some of these specs and acronyms are confusing, but does it seem to anyone else that this thing might support 3G on T-Mobile AND ATT?
It says:
Now, WCDMA and HSDPA are both different types of 3G networks, aren't they? They have all the frequencies covered there. This could be HUUUGE news for ATT folks who were waiting on the (now defunct) Morrisson.NETWORKS:
WCDMA 900/1700/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (Category 7/8), EDGE, GPRS Class 12, AGPS

got that quote off of a howard forums message. Looks like the 3G on this phone is for Tmo + europe.AT&T is using 1900 MHz (850 MHz in some markets) for 3G. T-Mobile will use 1700 MHz for download and 2100 MHz for upload (maybe I reversed T-Moble's bands.) I think AT&T did win some AWS licenses (1700 and 2100 combo), but I don't know what they are going to use that for.
It's missing the 1900MHz for ATT
Oh, snap, just now when I see my post the way the line breaks on the Moto page, I didn't see where the frequencies were listed. That 1900 is for the GSM, not the HSDPA... So nevermind about the ATT 3G thing.![]()
