And yet, YOU sir, made a GREAT mistake when creating your response.

What JAWheat411 actually said was that ANDROID would more than likely over-power the iPhone... He never mentioned the G1. And so your post already fails.

The truth is, that although the iPhone has brand name and reputation, it sure as hell has A LOT of things going against it. From hardware flaws, to software flaws, to COST (which is a big one).

Apple LOVES to over-price everything they create. People illogically still buy their products, and thus they continue to over-price their products.

The iPhone is a lot less impressive hardware-wise than the G1. The G1 has a lot of hardware features that a lot of people complained about for the iPhone. The lack of QWERTY keyboard. Addressed. The lack of removable storage. Addressed. The lack of a removable battery. Addressed. And so on and so forth.

The G1 undoubtedly has the better hardware features. And it's definitely (even if subtly) cheaper. All that's left is what? The software... And we all know that that is the true power behind the G1. If the G1 came with Windows Mobile, I (and many other people) wouldn't have bought it.

Will Android be better than the iPhone OS? To me, it is a certainty. It will have more innovative and diverse Apps giving the G1 WAY more potential than the iPhone ever had.

Whether the G1 itself will outsell the iPhone isn't the right question... Will Android have a bigger User-base? The answer is yes. Because the iPhone OS will be only for the iPhone. While the Android OS will be ALL OVER the place. In all sorts of different phones. Allowing people to have similar and diverse experiences at the same time.

Through Android, millions of phone users will undergo the same mobile experience. I'll have my G1, and I'll be doing something that another person with another type of Android phone can do aswel, through the same App. Obviously the Android SDK is built in such a way so that when phone's don't have the hardware needed, the Apps simply wont try to do those actions, but instead do the actions that it CAN do on that phone. Touch-screen, no touch-screen, QWERTY-keyboard, etc. And thus everyone can still be connected to the same services. Cross-phone. Cross-network.

The Android will be an epidemic. And a phone without Android will be mediocre at best. Android has opened a door that previous mobile OSs kept shut. And it has opened this door and shown the masses what lies behind of it. Unlimited software potential.

Android's install-base will surpass the iPhone's DRAMATICALLY. It will only take no more than 2 or 3 different phones with Android and the iPhone's OS will be over-shadowed.

Can the G1 itself outsell the iPhone? It's possible. Not probable, but possible. But the truth of the matter is, that noone is really rooting for G1 to outsell the iPhone.... Everyone is simply rooting for Android to succeed. And the truth of the matter is, that Android's future definitely DOES look bright. Unquestionably bright. And that the iPhone will probably have no choice but to admit defeat.
