I really think it was that wide to start with. As everyone keeps pointing out the initial image is compressed inward. Either way its a decent looking phone... I just don't like all that wasted real estate of black plastic that could essentially be more visible screen area.

Either way nice to see another Android handset... and I can't lie.. i'm not disappointed at this thing not being able to blow the G1 out of the water.
