I would get this in the blink of an eye if it allowed me to use Windows Live Messenger IM services over a 3G/EDGE connection, as well as getting MMS working.

Ya i have the same question,
I live in India as its still not available for End Users here & I am doing comp engg, I ll b having those dev work next yrs so i have planned to purchase dev phone 1.
1. Will 3g network will work on it When available......
2. will i get latest updates
3. every hardware n software ll b same or different form the End user phone?
( I know that the diff will b sim n hardware unlocked bt what does it mean by hardware locking.)

i too live in India.. i am eyeing at the G1 for a long time.. now google gave us all an opportunity to buy this piece of revolution...

i registered myself as a developer paying 25$.. i went till the check out page but then decided to stop the buying process :

1. 399$ for the phone.. am absolutely OK with this..
2. UPS innovations - shipping charge - 224$

WTF.. 224$ for shipping to India (Rs.11000 just for shipping).. something is really wrong in this.. thats more than 50% of the phones cost.. thats a total of 623$.. thats worse..

google and htc have to do something about this ...

Wow that's a lot of shipping, do you have any comparable shipping rates? I've never shipped anything overseas so I don't know what rreasonable would be?

Also as far as this phone is concerned I know its unlocked so would you register it with any carrier and there data plan? Or is it just for development purposes?

We dont have any contract basis plans nor 3g is still available here but 1 thing i can do is ask them to ship that phone in my relatives in US which will free then they may send it to me when any one comes in India.

yeah that might be a better idea. but they better open the parcel and bring it here.. otherwise there will be heavy customs duty levied..

i guess thats the resaon for the high shipping charge.. just crossing my fingers .. that htc will reduce the shipping charges or atleast reduce the phone charges for outside US developers..
