Google gives employees "Dream Phones" for holiday bonuses

Well...I'd agree it's a crappy bonus, but better than nothing. If the phone includes Google paying for the minutes and data plan, then I'd say they got a pretty good bonus.

From an Android standpoint, I'd say it's one of the best things that could have happened. As others have mentioned, they just made it much more likely that Google's Android staff will address many of the issues we've noted.

They're all talking about how holiday bonuses "help families in need during the big spending time of christmas." I don't think Google employees are exactly "in need". Whatever they're salaries are, I bet its on the right side of the bell curve.

I believe families in need...need to help themselves. Its called financial planning. My wife and I do alright for a dual income family of 4 (and 4 pets to feed as well)...but we do not rely on stupid stuff like bonuses or tax refunds to live like many people do.

And I belive you are right...Googles annual performance bonuses can be as high as 20-30K???? WTF...try putting 3-4K in a savings account and use that next year when you feel that you are getting "screwed" because people arent handing out free money.

...With that said...I hope (and im sure there are) alot of employees who are grateful with what they have received. and if any make it to AC...welcome!

(Best part is, my boss said 'We have over 100 employees. I can't get everyone an iPod. So I mentioned Google giving out the G1 to everyone. He started laughing....)

Better than nothing, some of us only get cookies and punch for a holiday bonus. Anybody working for google shouldnt be too hard up for cash I hear the pay and benefits are great

For the record, I've been trying to write about bonuses vs. expectations. In light of what others have written here, I'm convinced this cannot be pulled off without sounding like a douche bag... so don't try

Hey, I'm grateful! Now, for better or worse, you guys can look forward to more folks joining this forum!

Right now, I'm missing my iPhone, but I'm sticking with the G1 for now because I believe in the platform. Looking forward to where the open source community takes it in the next few months!
