First, let me preface this by saying that I have been with T-Mobile since '99. I have also not been under a contract with them for the last 2-3 years.
Now.....I had no idea that the phone could be purchased for $179 until I came to this site, so I thank you all for your posts.
After reading all of your posts, I decided to call T-Mobile. When the young lady answered, she gave me the "Oh, Ms. J, I see you've been a loyal customer with us since 2001. We certainly do appreciate your business and loyalty". So I responded back with, "Well, as you just said, I've been with you all for a long time, and actually, I've been with y'all since '99, not '01. Can you tell me why I was not able to purchase the G1 phone at the $179 price"?
I ordered the phone earlier today, so my account was charged $350 + already. Well, within 10 minutes, Ms. J @ T-Mobile was able to research my account, see that I had not upgraded any phones in the last couple of years (I normally just buy the phone at retail b/c I love being free) and get everything straightened out. Ms. J was able to issue me a refund of almost $130.00 tonight. I will have a credit on my bill, which made the purchase price of the phone about $215.00 ($179 + $18 upgrade fee+ taxes). That girl is the bomb!!!Owwwhhhhh!!! LOL
All of that to say that if you call, not upset and not to complain, but to "inquire" as to why you could not get the lower price- if you are eligible....meaning that you have not done an upgrade in the last 12 months- you will more than likely be issued a refund. Also, try calling at a non-peak time....say 6 or 7am or like I did, around 10pm eastern time.
Hope this info helps you all out!!
This may be a late response, but YES, the phone comes with GPS. Pre-Ordering IS available to existing customers ONLY. The anticipated ship date if you pre-order is October 22nd, but of course, that could vary.
For Non-T-Mobile customers, you will not be able to pre-order at this time, but you can enter your information on www.t-mobile.com to be informed of when the phone will be on sale to the general public.
$215.00 ($179 + $18 upgrade fee+ taxes

I understand why they would do the price difference if it would be just two years from the date I upgraded and not on top of the current one. But what is the difference from upgrading now versus a few months down the line if it still adds two years on top of the current contract? Either way they get the money from us, and if someone is silly enough to break the contract that breakage fee.
