Flash is always great in theory and theres always someone to say its more than just a plugin for watching videos. But for the most part these other great uses don't have actual implementations in the real world. Its simply not used outside of video and online flash games.

Also Google is working away to drive HTML 5 consumer adoption. Look for their Wave service to require it. It will be popular and will drive any browser not supporting HTML 5 (mainly IE) to support it and users to upgrade or switch. I'm not one to say "technology X is dead" like many other zealots but in this case....
