Default AT&T waiting for Android to open up to non-Google applications

AT&T Mobility CEO, Ralph de La Vega, had the time to speak with the Web 2.0 Summit today about the iPhone 3G broadband limits. The talks mostly consisted of U-Verse and data limits that followed, but for some reason he slipped a bit of Android inform... Read more

This is an excellent opportunity for android to grow and evolve. The more carriers and phone manufactures embrace it and popularity of the OS increases the more developers will have an incentive to develop an application for Android.

It will also give Android a nice boost to see AT&T offer a phone with Android given that they have a huge 3g footprint so it will like more tempting in the consumers eyes. I just hope they are like T-Mobile and don’t place restrictions on either the phone or the applications that can be run on their network.
cant put this damn phone down...

This is good, very good. The fact that they are considering, and not bashing, Android says that it has potential. If you tell somebody you will consider it, without them first asking, it means they already have envisioned it
    How cute... What is it?

Question Re: AT&T waiting for Android to open up to non-Google applications

AT&T wants Android to open up...? wha? Aren't they the exclusive provider for the iPhone?

I mean.. don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Android platform open up so that it's as open as maemo, but to sell an iPhone and say Android isnt yet open enough... they have got to have their head on backwards.

I think Android on AT&T would definitely add legitimacy to the OS. My fear is that they will technically neuter it like they did my Nokia E62. Same thing as the E61 but yanked Wi-Fi, changed the video player, etc. Now that I think about it, with their track record, maybe it's a good thing Android isn't coming to ATT.

T-mobiles service is a bit sluggish. I'd like to see it on AT&T.

P.s I agree with all the above comments.

I hope Apple doesn't slap AT&T. I've read Apple's control over AT&T regarding the iPhone is unprecedented. AT&T may not be in a position to jeopardize their relationship with Apple and lose out on exclusivity with the iPhone.

But it is definitely good to see the interest growing, no matter what happens.
