Hey, I had the same problem for almost a week, finally I did a factory data reset. It worked, haven't had problems since. I'd say try that.
Hello dear community,
actually, downloads from the market were working fine when I used my father's SIM card to test the device, but ever since I took it out again it doesn't work anymore, neither via WLAN nor via 3G (and my father's SIM didn't even have 3G enabled!).
Rarely, it already gets stuck at "Starting download", but usually I just get "Download unsuccessful". I found out that this might be a bug, though I seem to be one of the very few for whom it actually never works.

Are some of you experiencing the same problems? Maybe, you have some ideas on how to solve the issue? (Besides resetting, I don't want to lose the few apps I was able to download!)

Regular plain old G1 on the most recent OTA update.
Yes, I will probably do that. :/ Do I have to unlock the phone again then?
Oh, dang, yeah, probably. I'm just running your normal old T-Mobile bought G1. I am not familiar with unlocking. But if you're running a rooted G1, you should try emptying your market cache first and see if that helps.

Alright, looks like doing a hard reset (Home + End Call on start up => ALT + W for factory reset) worked. Finally, I can download apps.
And btw: I didn't need to enter the unlock code again.
LOL, I was wondering if you were going to encounter that message! It's pretty damn annoying right? I guess I probably shoulda just linked to my previous problem, but I'm not smart enough to do that :P
Glad to hear about the unlock code too.

Im having the same problem! It was working fine then i did a system reboot n then for some reason it keeps saying starting downloading! I did another reboot n for some reason but now any one no what to do to help the situation cuz this LG phone is only good with these apps! so any help anyone?
Can't read post properly..........brain melting from unnecessary use of textspeak.........will try to decypher.
Try turning 3g off. Then try to connect and download an app. If this works, turn 2g off, activate aeroplane mode, then turn off aeroplane mode. Then try to download again.
This worked for me (for now)
HTC Desire HD - T-Mobile UK
32GB Class 6 SD

Or try to establish a wifi connection. This solution usually works for me...
