Default [Review] Lightning Bug - Sleep Clock [App]

Lightning Bug is a visual sound machine with an alarm clock and sleep timer to fall asleep by, or simply relax with.

Presentation: Lightning Bug has very attractive graphics and sound. I was immediately impressed by the quality of the lightning (an effect that can often look hokey), and a variety of backgrounds, ambient sounds, and clock fonts make for a pleasant look/feel.

Usability: Selecting an environment and accessing the settings is entirely straightforward. Touching anywhere on the screen (or tapping the menu button) toggles the controls, and touching an empty area from the control screen takes you back to the clock/background. The clock, alarm, sleep timer, and screen timeout settings are easily understood, yet fairly extensive. An option to timeout the background graphics but keep the clock awake is a nice addition. One feature that seems to be missing, though, is a brightness setting for the clock, especially after screen timeout. Color options for the clock would be nice, also.

Usefulness: This app does a fine job of giving you relaxing sounds and interesting backgrounds, and is handy if you need a restful distraction in order to sleep or nap. The sleep timer and screen timeout guarantee you won't wear out your screen or kill your battery. The alarm includes a variable snooze option with a large button to snooze and a smaller button to dismiss.

Value: This is a free app, and a professionally done one at that.

Overall: Lightning Bug is a great little app that'll be staying on my phone. I was skeptical about how relaxing it would be, but the sounds are of good quality and they avoid obvious looping. Alarm and clock features make it more than just a distraction. The graphics are a nice bonus, and again, the lightning rendering is excellent.

I think I remember seeing this awhile back when it first came out, didn't like it that much, Digital Clock still works for me :]
