Default Keep Android Open Petition! - Application in the Market

I did a search and didn't find anyone had posted this yet -- this is an application in the market. You download it and by leaving your comment, you are signing the petition to T-Mobile to keep Android Open. This in response to the recent action by Google in response to T-Mobile, pulling tethering apps from the Market.

The application also has a link to a tethering app for rooted phones, and a link to email T-Mobile executives.

Android is already open source, and there's nothing stopping non-Google-controlled markets from selling tethering applications. One would be better off using Android's own powers and abilities against TMobile/Google: create a better app store, one that's not constrained by the wills of the carriers. Google would then attempt to use its kill switch to kill off an application, which would only make the kernel h4x0r-types hunt down that code and remove it from the project.

Poof, problem indirectly solved without the use of a hokey "me too!" petition that'll probably go nowhere.

True, there is nothing stopping you from installing an app from a different source. Pulling an app from the market does not mean the app is banned or blacklisted form your G1 the way it would be on an iPhone. Use whatever apps you like, you just need to look a bit harder for it.

Android is open. T-Mobile is not.

There's a difference.

wow are you guys serious? I wonder if people understand what open-source is..

In general, there are things called rules and a TOS, which you must agree to before uploading an application to the Google's Android Market. Tethering is a clear violation of the TOS, which states:

Developers should not upload or otherwise make available applications or any other materials that:
1) harm user devices or personal data.
2) create unpredictable network usage that has an adverse impact on a user's service charges or an Authorized Carrier's network.
3) knowingly violate an Authorized Carrier's terms of service for allowed usage.
4) create a spammy user experience, whether by posting repetitive content or misleading information about an application's purpose.

If you don't abide to these rules, don't upload there. Go upload somewhere else. At least we have an alternative mean to install apps or buy apps. Everything on the iphone must go through the Iphone App store.

People who complain about this should just proceed and complain about having to drive with a speed limit..OR argue that Google must allow apps that harm user data and personal information since it's OPEN.
