    Exclamation Nexus S 4G 3G/4G/Wifi Connectivity Issues.

After a week with this phone, I had definitely noticed a lack of signal in areas I was almost positive were covered by Sprint's network. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but after visiting the official Sprint Forums, it turns out that so many others have been having this issue. I didn't want to start some rumor unless I knew for certain it was not just faulty hardware in my Nexus S.

SO... I just returned from my local Sprint store and they confirmed the lack of signal my Nexus S was having when compared to the HTC EVO and even one of the Blackberrys. It was about 20 dB lower in signal strength consistently, and therefore they issued me another Nexus S just incase it was a hardware issue with that particular device.

After testing the new Nexus S 4G, there is still a lack of signal when compared to my old HTC Hero. This could mean one of two things -- either ALL the Nexus S 4G's issued to customers have an antenna problem... or a minor software glitch easily fixed with an OTA (I'm hoping the latter). In the Sprint Forums thread, there have been a couple of posts stating that faulty drivers for the cell radio may be the cause. Either way, Sprint Admins have taken this issue into consideration, as over 150 people have commented in their thread.

Thumbs down Re: Nexus S 4G 3G/4G/Wifi Connectivity Issues.

It has been 48 hours and I am on Nexus S 4G Phone TWO! The antenna in the middle of downtown San Antonio, Texas and four blocks from the main core Sprint/Clear Towers and I have one bar 4G and 1 bar 3G and this is not cool. I took the phone back the first time because the phone was not alerting me for text or email when in vibe mode and was told by Samsung that there was a bug in Ginger...great! What good is a phone if it will not alert you in vibe all mode? I miss my Blackberry Pearl simply because it worked and worked well! Now if I take this back to Sprint POW, BANG, WHAM, ZIP I get hit with a $35 dollar restocking fee! Has anyone had any luck with the EVO, this is just insane and not cool at all...I wish this phone worked as advertised! Way to let us down Sprint/Samsung/Google...reminds me of Chrome when it came out...looked pretty but did not deliver. For now STAY CLEAR of this phone until the bugs have been worked out and it is ready for prime time. On a side note I took it just outside of our city today where I should have have great coverage but I had one bar again and could not use the internet! The net and email ONLY worked when I was in WIFI mode from a local hotel. I could not get email or net via 3G if my life depended on it! That now prompts me to take this paper weight back and see where we go from here!

You and me BOTH man... I don't know whats up but I have been following the official Sprint forums, XDA, and every single news site about this issue. I can't believe more people arent complaining! The phone is simply amazing -- yet you just can't get past the fact that the signal is much lower than any other phone Sprint currently sells. I hope their is an OTA soon because of the EVO 3D's locked bootloader :[

Not sure if you guys have managed to solve your problems already as this a bit old thread, hope that you have. Still, here is a couple workarounds that I've found usefull when trying to solve problems with connections with my phone. One thing to try on is of course updating latest software updates (if there are any) to reduce the amount of lost connections due to faulty firmware. In a case of a lost connection one very good (though incovenient) way is to reboot your phone as it closes down and brings back up all of your connections at the same. More convient way to do basically same thing without actual rebooting is to use these Android Apps that reset/fix your connections (see e.g. https://market.android.com/details?i...onnectionfixer).

Lost connections are unfortunately quite common for 3G/4G networks especially indoors, trains, etc. and it takes ages before phone reconnects then. Thus, either rebooting or using those apps is a good trick to get back online faster
