    Default Motorola USB car charger

Had a quick question about charging. Will the Motorola mini USB charger that I have work with the G1, or will I have to purchase another car charger?

I believe any standard mini USB cable charger will fit.

I use the motorla car charger to charge my T-mobile Dash, that supposed to have exactly the same port as the G1 so my assumption is that you can use it.

This is hard to say, i have heard people using the Moto Mini-USB charger on HTC devices. But i have used a RAZR and RIZR charger and either of them charged my Wing, which i believe is the same port as the G1. So i think we might have to wait and see with this one.

Well since you can charge the device with the usb cable connected to a computer and access it as a mass storage device I would assume it uses the standard pin setup of any usb device. So you should be able to use any standard usb charger, that is kinda the point of using a standardized connection like that.

If you are using the same car charger and it works for both of you, but her home charger doesn't work for you. Her home charger probably has a resistor or something in the line with steps the voltage down to a point where your phone can't use it, something the car charger may not have. A wall plugin charger might have something like that built in for various reasons. Like maybe they realize phones are usually plugged in over night so they stepped the current down to keep from heating the phone up with it is plugged in, where as you only use a car charger while driving(for most people) so that isn't as big of a worry. Also alot of car charger are aftermarket and they just didn't bother adding it in if it works without it, but blackberry puts in the charger with the phone to help ensure the max life of the phone. The blackberry charger may also have a circuit in it that doesn't activate the power signal unless it gets a specific signal through one of the other pins. That would be a way to make your chargers only work for your brand phones but still allow your phone to use other types of chargers.

As you stated it could be any number of things and the easy way is to wait and try it.

Another easy way to test if you are really intrested, and I know it isn't that important. Get a volt tester and check the pins in the cables. There should only be one power pin in a usb cable, Minni, usb b, or regular usb. And if you have a good tester you can see if her's is putting out a different current amount.
