Hardware Failure?

I bought this recently,



And for some reason it wont work with iPod headphones.

iPod Headphones > 3.5mm jack on adapter > adapter > Phone

When I play music it still comes out of the phone speaker, why is this?

I have also tried it with powered PC speakers, and nothing!

Any help is appreciated.
