That box is called a QR code. It can be scanned by your Android phone with a barcode scanner like "Barcode Scanner" app and it will take you to the market for that app.
I have noticed that there is a square scan-like box frequently listed on pages that have android apps on them. I get the impression that this has something to do with downloading apps to your phone. I have googled this till I'm blue in the face and I can't find ANYTHING about what this is or how it functions.
I have attached a .jpg to this as reference. If anyone could shed any light on this, I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Thank you so much for your amazingly fast response. Can anyone explain how we are supposed to know about this? I couldn't find information about this to save my life.

It's basically one of those things that you have to ask someone about.
G1 -- Dead!
Hero -- Dead!
Another G1 (for non-US travel) -- Given to a friend
Samsung Vibrant -- Crappy hardware! Given to a friend
Galaxy Nexus -- ...To Be Continued
look up a couple posts....
BTW: i wasn't being an a$$, just being funny.

Thanks! I can't believe they just expect you to find this stuff. That's really annoying.
Well I basically just typed in what your title to this thread was into Google Search and bunch of results popped up lol.
QR codes are really neat. With "barcode scanner" in the market, it even gives your contacts in your phone a QR code that anyone with the app can then scan and add that contact to their contacts just by scanning the code right from your phones screen!
really cool stuff!
Such is my life. Great phone anyway. Absolutely thrilled to be off of palm.
