Sorry if I'm off but somewhere I read in the details of this device I read that there isn't a file browser for this thing, that you'll have to pretty much search for whatever file. Granted this sounds like a pain in the butt in the long term of things if true, but again this thing being open makes it likely that this'll be done soon enough.
Sooo... something along the lines of like how Linux have a few different file browsers to choose from like Dolphin or Nautilus or whatever, in the end would be just nice to have a browser that'll get the job done of browsing along through files. Anything of the sort already released or being worked on?

well im wondering if its not built in already at least in some capacity, just by going to your browser and selecting file open.
but yes i think its being worked on as we speak, a little konqueror port would be great.
Dolphin? Nautilus?? Konqueror??? AAAAACK!!!! Something much, much lighter, please, without all the nasty Gnome or KDE dependencies. The G1is a phone, not a Dell laptop. Midnight Commander would be great, but I'd settle for a GUI manager something like XFE, XWinCommander or Endeavour. At least they're simple to install and much faster than any Gnome or KDE bloatware.
I am willing to bet the Web Browser will allow you to see files on the phone, maybe even throw in some cmds like ls and what not.
yeah i dont understand that feature either.... oh well we will have to wait and see what happens![]()

That's very true. I guess this all depends on how Android handles root. I haven't seen anything to support (or disprove for that matter) that every time an application needs higher access than whats default that it asks the user. For all we know installing the application could imply to the OS that it has root access to run.
Of course this is all speculation until we get some tech specs on the back end of Android, as that still seems to be somewhat clouded in mystery.
I am going to have to look for the link i read...it did say anytime the app needs access to certain parts of the system (Camera, GPS, System Files...etc.) it will ask for permission. I am sure they have implemented some kind of "do not ask this again!" type of deal. Hopefully its not like Ubuntu where you just have to open a console, type su then you have root access. I think all security measures are foiled once the user is asked for permission! most will just hit Ok and allow any Malware in.
No, my friend, you misunderstood their security system completely...
What Android DOES do is that, during an Apps installation, it'll tell you the different things that the App will have access to, for example, Camera, GPS, etc, etc, and then it'll ask you at that time to Allow or to Cancel the installation.
So it will ask you one time only, and that time will be during the Apps installation process. It WON'T be asking you everytime you use the program.
Yup, from what I heard supposedly there isn't a File Browser App yet. But yes, I too also expect that this will be one o fthe first Apps to appear in the Marketplace. Also a "Note" App. Which supposedly won't come pre-packaged either. But I highly doubt this given the fact that one of the samples that comes with the current SDK release is supposedly the code for a Note App. But, who knows. Either way, there'll be plenty of Note Apps to choose from soon enough.
