Default Sim Card not "activated" yet, can I use WiFi to Download from marketplace?

    Hey guys,

I just got my G1 and loving it. My new contract with the T-mobile Data plan doesn't start until nov 29th, but I've used another person's Sim to "initiate" the phone. So using WiFi I'm able to browse the Web and get access to Gmail.

I can even go to the android marketplace and see all the apps. But when I click "install" it says "installing, please check notification screen for progress" something like that...so it should be installing...cept, it's been like an hour or something, and it's still "installing"

Is it because my plan has not activated yet?

We had a problem with one of our two G1s that would not download or install anything from the market.

The google account was 13 letters long and contained a period.

We did a factory reset on the phone, and created a new, shorter google account.

It then started downloading and installing.

I can't say if it was the google account. Or if it needed a reset. Or if it was both. But doing that fixed it.

thanks for the reply...mmmm, my gmail is only 8 characters long with no periods....

so ur saying that it's not because my sim card has not "activated" yet that I can't install, but maybe it needs a factory reset?
