Dear forum members,
I have setup my hotmail account correctly via pop3.
I have no problem receiving emails from my hotmail account.
EXCEPT for the following;
1) The only problem I notice is that the Sent folder on my G1 does not show all my Sent emails in Hotmail.
When I logon to Hotmail via web or windows live mail I can see all my sent emails except for the ones sent from my G1.
When I click on Sent folder on my Hotmail account on my G1, I have emails which seems to be the ones I sent from my G1.
So it seems that the two Sent folders exist as separate items and are not in sync.
2) Same for Trash folder on G1 and Deleted folder on Hotmail web or Windows Live Mail
3) My other folders that are on Hotmail web or Windows Live Mail do not appear on my G1.
Has any member of the forum, who has Hotmail account on their G1, encountered a similar issue?
Regards,
Vinny
This is not an issue with Hotmail, but the way POP3 works.
Put simply, when using POP3, your phone connects to the server (Hotmail, in this case), requests a list of messages. It compares the list of messages to the ones it has already downloaded previously, and downloads the new ones. It may or may not delete them off the server once it's downloaded them.
The message list is exactly that - just a list of emails in your Inbox.
POP3 does not support folders. So, that's why you don't see emails in your Sent folder on Hotmail appearing on your phone, and why you don't see emails in your Sent folder on your phone appear on Hotmail - POP3 doesn't see outside of your Inbox.
Also, POP3 does not support uploading of emails. So, even if you did have an email on your phone, it would not upload this to Hotmail.
In order to deal with folders and two-way synching (uploading as well as downloading) you need to use IMAP. Alas, Hotmail does not support IMAP, so there is no way around this.
Ahhh many thanks for the enlightenment
Shame about imap not available on Hotmail.
