On a side note, Retro Defense runs like crap on the iPhone 3G. It's not a limitation of the app. It's the hardware. That's why I only play it on the G1I love that game!
Just got the update for Retro Defense which gives you four new levels.
Has anyone cracked the Long Distance level and got to level 30+? So far I've only got to level 10.
I've figured out you have to use two small reds on the single squares in the middle of the level to start with. If you use one green or two greens you last until about level 5 or as soon as you get some yellows. Small blues don't work. You can get the slow-down turrets, but without turrets being in range at the back this is useless.
Assuming you have two level 10 small reds or a red and a green on the single squares, this will take you to about level 7 to 10 before they're overwhelmed.
The next obvious step is to get some big guns at the back. But, in order to get them in range before the level gets too high for the small turrets to handle, you will need to have been lucky enough to have collected three range boosting upgrades (or power+range combos) and have them in a row at the back all powering up a large red (I've never been that lucky), or you can use a large green (this fails at level 10 as it's too slow).
I've also tried getting large blues on the single squares at the bottom. I managed to get one once, but I died at level 9.
What have other people tried?

On paper (based on one source, so it may be all lies) the G1 has a more powerful processor and graphics processor specification.
The iPhone is also 2 years old, so according to Moore's Law, comparable computing technology (i.e. mobile phone to mobile phone) should have more than doubled in processing power in that time. Of course this is a HUGE generalisation. Just because 2 years has gone past doesn't mean HTC chose to use state-of-the-art bleeding edge technology in their phone, and may in fact have used a CPU from the 1980s... (they didn't)
Many other factors come into play... for example the virtual machine the G1 runs (Dalvik) has an overhead. It may have been programmed in an entirely different way on the two phones.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating of course, so if Stanavoy says it runs better on the G1, then that's good enough for me.
Anyway
Yeah, totally different languages. Objective C vs Java (optimized to run on a Dalvik VM).
The hardware for the iPhone I believe (I'm too lazy to look it up) has a bit of an edge with the processor, but it comes down to how the app is optimized to run within the OS. Also it depends upon what graphical rendering needs to occur, how they're implementing it, whether their using hardware-based optimizations, etc.
Too many variables to figure out in that equation.![]()
At the end of the day, the G1 is better than the iPhone in looks, speed, performance, memory, screen size, colour, resolution, GSM reception, WiFi Reception, GPS accuracy, battery life, number of apps on the market, volume, etc.

Haha, I was reading through all of your posts thinking to myself... "I wonder if iPhone fourms do as much doggin on the G1 as the G1 fourms do the iPhone."
Dont get me wrong... I'm a proud owner of the G1 and loving every second that I have had it since day 1. But was just curious. Heh.

I have never been able to play around with the iPhone longer than a few mins when I was checking out my friends when he got his and I cant really judge it based on just a few mins. I wish I could play around with both phones first hand and see what the Pros and Cons for both of them are. But most likely I wont be able to unless I can steal it from my friend for a few days, HA, and that prolly wont happen. He is just as protective over his phone as I am mine. I wont let mine go outta my sight, so its highly doubtful that I will be able to do any compairing.
Back on topic, I just tried Long Distance, this is the first time I've had this much problems with a level. I start with one red turret, build that to a 10 right away. It can hold its own for a few levels. I tried to get the big red turret out, but its hard to hold on until you can get the $350 for it. I tried at first with a medium red and placing a medium green up top, but the green travels so slow its pointless. Can a medium red reach the targets with enough levels?
