    Default Refreshing POP Mail

    Hi,

I have set up some mail accounts on my new android. Previously coming from a WM device, I'm trying to set it up the same.

It collects only the first 1kb header fine. What I would like it to do is when it refreshes email, if there is any mail that was partly downloaded that no longer exists on the POP3 server, then have it automatically delete from my android as well.

This way the only mail showing on my android is 'uncollected' email for my PC's email account. Once my PC collects email, it is removed from my android.

This used to be a default option with Windows Mobile. Just wondering what setting I need to change to do this on my android please?

    Thanks

    Adza

You would have to use IMAP instead of POP3 on all your accounts to achieve this.

This way the master copy of emails you have is dictated by what's on the server. The devices that connect to the server (PC, phone, webmail, etc) will see just the emails that are on the server. So in other words, all devices see the same email list.

If you delete an email on your PC, it will update the server. When the phone connects it will refresh its list of emails and hence the email you deleted on your PC will disappear from your phone too. And vice versa.

Just remember though not to delete any emails you haven't read or want to keep. If you delete it anywhere it will delete everywhere with IMAP.

Have you tried K9 or Seven (in beta, so watch out for some weirdness)? Not sure about K9 (doesn't work on my G1 properly) but with Seven I get the results you're after. But there are other issues. The latest version can't handle attachments properly (just like the stock Android pop app). So, I went to an earlier version, which does (all versions are on their site). I'm sure it was superseded for a reason, but I have hit a snag yet.
