Rating stars not averaged?

Mail Shadow Sync Status has three star ratings (at the time of writing). 5 stars, 5 stars and 3 stars.

That's 13 stars over 3 ratings, which is 4 and a bit average by my maths.

However, Market rates the average as 3 stars...

Maybe the rating system is laggy.... was the 3 star the first rating? It might just put the first rating up and then wait until a certain number of downloads before it averages it again?

I think the whole Market system (comments, ratings, etc) is a bit delayed. I know a lot of times I'll see an app with no stars/ratings/comments and I'll click it quickly to try to post my obligatory "FIRST!", only to find out that I'm not first - Then I'll back out, and go back to the app in the list and it's still listed as having no stars/ratings/comments.

Also, no - I don't post "FIRST!" - I was trying to be funny... My sarcasm emitter is running low...

Perhaps apps get 3 stars by default when there isn't a sufficient amount of ratings?

Yup! That's correct. You can still rate programs without making a comment.
