Question Question about Motorola Droid Android 2.0 web browser

Question about Motorola Droid Android 2.0 web browser:

OK, this should be obvious, but I've never had a 'smartphone' before and over the years I've learned that you can't assume anything with a cell phone operating system! So, here comes the stupidity....

I need to know if you can type a web address into the browser and go directly to that website without searching for it on google.

    Also..

Can you stop the thing from picking up other wireless networks?

Here's what happened.... I've put my hands on this thing twice at my local verizon store... once on Saturday night... I didn't think to try and go directly to my companies website but I found google listings for the site in seconds....

Tonight I went back to ask a few more questions... one of which is can I go to any website I please.... I tapped on the address bar, immediately had a really great touch key pad which I typed the website into.... hit go, and it searched google instead of coming up with the website. However, it never showed google search results, instead it picked up the home page for the neighboring mall's free wi-fi access.

Both of the phones in the store did this, but another phone (I think the HTC) went right to the requested website....

Is it because the phone was so messed up from people playing with it, or was the wi-fi hot spot feature overiding regular service? If so, can you turn it off?

Any info is appreciated.... I'm in 'gotta have it' mode right now and will be buying tomorrow if I get a possitive response to this post.

    Thanks, Melissa

ive got a g1 , but it wont be much of a difference on the browser . it goes where i type it to . if i type androidcommunity.com , thats where it goes . but there is a difference between pressing enter and pressing search . from what i did get from playing with the droid is that there isnt much of a difference in the browser .
and yea , you can turn off the wifi . you can also ignore hotspots .

Excellent! Thanks for such a quick reply.... I kind of figured it had to be because I was the last one to touch it after 12 hours of people playing with it!

I guess I will have to figure out the difference between 'go' and search tomorrow after I get my own!
