Push Emails??

Hi, i'm looking to get one of the Android phones pretty soon but need to know how it will handle emails, and rather than get fobbed off by the sales guy in the phone shop i thought the best place to come would be here!

So, i have about 6 email accounts, all IMAP, a couple with gmail. I was wondering if i can set up push emailing with these email accounts so i get notified of new mail in real time rather than having to manually press send/receive. The mail accounts are hosted on Linux servers, so not Microsoft Exchange (if this makes a difference).

Only the main gmail account (the account you use to sign into the phone) will be truly push. The other 5 will be pull. You don't have to press send/receive for the pull system, but you set it up to fetch your email every 15 minutes (or however long you want it).

I have all of my gmail accounts forwarded to my main gmail account. That way, all of my emails from all of my gmail accounts are pushed.

Hi, thanks for that, if you have all your accounts going to ur gmail, can you still set it so that when you reply to a message it looks like it's sending from the original account, or does it look like it's coming from ur gmail account? i'll be using it for work you see.

You need ActiveSync for push email, and gmail is also push on Android

We are having issues getting our IT department to approve active sync so what I did, is I have touchdown polling every 15-30 minutes still trying to find the battery sweet spot. but I have a server rule that sends and email to my gmail account saying I got an email from [sender of the work email] then I can go "fetch" my email from work if I need to automatically.

It is a bit of a hack but an elegant one at that

You need ActiveSync for push email, and gmail is also push on Android

At risk of sounding like an idiot, i'm presuming you mean you need to install ActiveSync on the phone - if so, can you do this on Android? Does that mean that you can get push emails with any email account?

No, by work, i mean my own business emails, they're hosted on linux servers - no exchange

ActiveSync is on server, there are many activesync client on android such as RoadSync. I'm on Linux and uses Kerio Mail server (activesync push) to push my email using RoadSync on Android
