Problems creating merchant account

I have created and uploaded a free "lite" version of my app (scan2PDF Mobile) and managed to upload it. I am trying to upload the paid one but when I click on the link to obtain a merchant account I constantly get:

Sorry, we could not setup your merchant account.
Please try again later.

Not the most helpful messing in terms of description but the really annoying thing is that a lot of people who have the lite version (we had 3000 downloads in the first 12 hours) really want the full version and I am losing sales.

Have I missed something? I tried contacting Google Support but they are very quiet. If I sign up again will that help?

Please help - this is our first outing into the Android market and it has so far been frustrating!!
