Default Problem: MyBackup or My Downloads

After I did the JFv1.41RC33 update I reinstalled MyBackup so I could restore my Apps and Data. Everything went fine as far as restoring goes. All my apps show up in the pull-up section of the home screen (I never know what the proper name if that tab is.) Anyway I can access all my apps no problem. But when I go to the Market and open My Downloads the only apps that are showing are MyBackup, Astro, Pacman, and Droidsans Tweak Tools. I actually downloaded these myself after the upgrade. I don't know if there is a bug with MyBackup or what. Has anyone else seen this?

Yeah same thing happened to me while I was trying to root initially , all the my downloads were gone , used my backup and the apps came back but didn't show in the market.

I just wiped my phone today cause market kept crashing and everything that I had before was still in the my downloads section, I'm pretty much just going to use mybackup for all the data and not the applications anymore.

I can understand why it happened in my case as I had to wipe my phone a few times and flashed rc 29 a couple times as well. Not sure why it would happen if you were just going from 1.41 to 1.41 rc 33 though.

It's not a bug exactly. MyBackup restores the applications, but does not restore the Market cache by which Android tracks what you have installed. So while the applications are restored, the Market doesn't know it.

And thus you will never be notified if new updates are in the market. It only tracks items you have listed under "My Downloads", with nothing there, you won't get the message. Only remedy is to uninstall and then reinstall everything one by one.

I was hoping it would be something that could be restored. I understand perfectly what your saying. Is there a way to back up the Market Cache for future upgrades? Does moving the Cache to the SD card solve this problem?

I think the market cache should report all programs installed on the device, and not only downloaded, or at least have an option to do both, this way it will notify of programs installed outside of the market..

thanks danguyf and kitsunisan for clarifying the issue...

Hi is there a way to make it possible to backup the market cache w/o root? The reason is because i'm trying to get root and need to back up all my apps WITH the market updates, it would be a pain to download each app one by one. thank you

Get atractdog, its what I use to find updates, works pretty well.

It is very logical if you think about it..
The Market only knows about applications that are installed (get this) via the Market!

Sorry, not trying to sound like a prick, but it does make perfect sense. How is the Market going to know about application X that was installed outside of (and independent of) the Market? Unless application X notifies the Market that it was installed, which I don't think is even possible, it can't know.

But as the last person posted, if you use aTrackdog, it will notify you of updates, you can then update through the Market and viola your apps will show in the Market.

I've never seen it as a problem -- after I do a factory reset, I just use atrackdog to find out about updates. Then gradually, as each app is updated, those aps are then in your market cache, and when future updates for them become available, you will get notification.

Actually, if I had a choice, I would rather just use atrackdog to find out what apps have updates available. I don't download updates immediately when they come out -- I watch the reviews for a few days, because it seems fairly often the updates are very buggy, so I don't download them until they sort out the bugs. So I find it slightly annoying, getting a daily notice of updates available. I'd like to be able to turn that notification off, but we're not given that option unfortunately.
