    Default PhoneBook 2.0

    http://www.voxmobili.com/phonebook20/index.html

Inspired by instant messaging, social networks and life streaming applications, PhoneBook 2.0 combines them into an easy to use, all-in one phonebook application. It secures contacts, notifies the end-user when they are online, displays reminders when a birthday is coming and helps centralize all communications.

PhoneBook 2.0 is a white label product for mobile operators. They can customize it, brand it and create a mobile social network from their subscriber base.

Ideally suited for the teenagers which always want to be in touch with a large number of friends, it also helps business people to keep their precious contacts secure and up-to-date.

It simply makes contacts back at the center of social and communication universe.

I like the look of Phonebook 2.0 and as they've shown in vids, if you wanted to replace the contacts app with this, you can just tell your apps to interface with this and it does it cleanly. It's very nice IMO and it would probably be one the first things I'd download.

If you read the site, though, it looks like they might not release it to us early adopters. It sounds like they're going to hold out until some carrier like T-Mobile or Sprint or someone licenses it to bundle on their Android-based phone. (so there would only be specific-carrier branded versions.) One side of me doesn't like that as I really want it, the other side can appreciate that they spent the time developing it and even though they won some money from Google, they need to be paid for their time.

EDIT: Yeah, it says right there "White Label Product". Still, here's to hoping we'd get it.

That being said - if they do release it on the Android Market, it's one more thing that'll make me happy I was an early adopter.

It is sad if they hold off on the availability because they want to put a prize on it. The fact that they won the contest should be incentive for them to put it up on the Market as free or donation-ware... I will gladly donate to such a cause.
