Orb App for Android G1 (free Source)

Hi,

many may know orb.com and the option to stream media from your pc to mobile devices. Orb updated there streaming to work with Android, but there is still no official Android Orb APP (announced for June 2009).

As a Coder (php) and Android Newbie it was a challenge for me to play with the Orb Api ( http://developer.orb.com/ ) * the documentation needs some improvement* and also to improve my Android coding Skills.

Finaly I thought to publish it in the Market. But as I am more a Researcher than a Finalizer I decided to give you the present State and you can use as it is or improve it.

I talked also to Luci Julia from Orb and he mentioned when an app with the orb api comed published it needs the commercial key (also if it is free version)... and the key itself does not cost. But I dont have the head right now to go through that and just like to share my result. So you simple get an developer API from Orb and compile my source and have a quit simple Android APP for Orb (right now it lists you all your video content in a listview and when you click an item it starts streaming).

Still, its very simple.. but it works for me, relaxing in my bed and looking a movie streamed over wifi on my g1

i was unable to stop
so still i am working on it.
Already I asked orb for a commercial key (also the app will be free)
just I can not share with the dev key (statement from orb).

right now i can list all my videos, audios, web radios, pictures und documents.
Have a setup for login-pw....

Still looking how to read a Playlist.

Sounds awesome, I've used Orb a fair bit in the past with other devices, would be cool to use it on the G1 too.

omg, this is THE app im waiting for.

This thing will make my g1 sooo much more useful. I already have my tv set up with orb but im only able to stream live tv when im connected to the same home network, which is pointless.

Will this app allow live tv to be streamed on 3g or edge or other wifi networks?
Plzzz hurry with this app! Im sooooo waiting for it!

just to clear.
- I am not a pro Android Coder so the App is for sure improveable.

Right now I am able to show videos, listen audio and radio and display photos.
Documents are listed, but not shown

Also right now I am still unable to get a Playlist..if someone know how to get a PlaylistID from the xml... i would be happy to implement.

About TV.. I have NO Idea about that. Bcause I dont have a connected tv - tuner.. you may help me in that case what to do.

are some stuff I can get from TV Tuners. but without ability to test.. its quit hard.

You may create a xml statement that I can use and parse.
like.
1.

(here we get the orb session id)

2. than for example i read all videos

if you can construct an xml statement and tell me what data you use.. we may play with that.

Today I did send orb my app for review to get my commercial api key, than I can give you always the actual apk what I have and you can install it with a tool from the android market called "AppsInstaller" . I also will have a look what I have to do for publishing it in the market, so its more easy for you to get it. Maybe someone like to donate the 25$ to register my development Account for the Market

I do this just for fun and it will be free.. so please understand when I do not have always time to develop on it. Also that there are still many things to improve...

I hope to get soon the Key from Orb and so i will be able to share this app with you.

about the other question.

It will depend on your connection quality i guess.
I dont decide anything how it will be streamed.
Just I construct the Path to the Media on your PC that I get from Orb
and than I is on your Connection if its Wifi or 3g or whatever ...

Today I was in a cafe with wifi and there i was able to use this app also..
In this Time I am only able to test the Wifi.. for 3G you can give me response as soon i am able to share it with you (orb rules .. i need this dev.key)

.. so i hope my other posting is moderated now ... maybe it needed moderation because I posted some pics in it.. if its not there (6 screenshots).. have a look later.. or ask the admin from androidcommunity to hurry up his moderation

Why dont you just use orb.com. thats what i do. it works. make a link to the webpage and sign in.

i dont use orb.com cuz videos and tv only work if im connected to my home wifi network. it doesnt work on 3g nor edge nor any other wifi.

if u have a solution to that, plzz let me know! ive been researching this for months.
