I thought there was already a port, it was in beta with just a lst few painting and button mapping issues to work out. I saw it on one of these Android App sites. No phone right now or i'd try it.

Who want Opera Mobile to be ported over to Android?
I sure do, its seem to run a lot smoother than the built-in Android browser... Just look at how smooth its running on the HTC Touch HD, which has the same CPU(Qualcomm MSM7201A ARM11 @ 528MHz) as the T-mobile G1.

Oh that was Opera Mini, Opera Mobile is completely different from Mini. Mini is not as good as Mobile.
Oh, ok, i thought youd meant mini- since i see the names interchanged a lot, sorry. Well, i like mini anyway! It's always freeDon't know about mobile now, but it used to cost on devices i've had in the past... Anyway, sorry, my mistake.
well now you can have the j2me midlet of opera mini running until then ...
check it, it just hit the market.
Use all your old java apps, and the screen size should be autodetect or configurable..
New J2ME runner(Beta) now released in Android Market, use you G1 to go to Applications/Entertainment to get it !
Please send your feedback to dli@netmite.com
Note for previously installed J2ME Runner, because this version changed signature, so you need to UNINSTALL first before you can INSTALL.

I for one think the android browser does an amazing job, coming from using opera mobile everyday on my touch diamond. Opera mobile didn't format pages half as well as the android browser, it was slower, you had to wait for a whole page to finish loading before scrolling around because it would constantly re-orientate everything on the page while loading. A lot of javascript didn't work properly on it, and to top it off it was buggy as hell (although it is an alpha/beta and that is to be expected) To be completely honest the browser on the G1 is what sold me on the phone as i sat there in the t-mobile store comparing it to opera mobile for about 30 minutes before buying.
I'm a big fan of webkit, no need for anything else but the more browsers the better imo![]()
Thank you very much Luckster for the j2me midlet.I've been trying to get opera up and running for a few days now. I've been searching and posting all over the forums looking for an answer to this and no one had a clue. I even searched all over the opera websites and I couldn't find my answer there either. You just made my night. Thanks again.
I just want a adblock plugin for it and it beats the Iphone that all I really want.
