I downloaded it. Not sure why. I don't think we even need it. The built in browser is just fine. Something to play with I guess.
I followed the thread for factory reset to free spacce, but not just ready for it... dont have time to sit through re-syncing/configuring contacts and ringtones for contacts/emails/smm/im/alarms/etc, backgrounds/folders/homescreens and u name it.
Maybe next weekend, but as of now, Only prime apps get installed, no more beta testing on a beta everything...
Edit: Thanks though

technically it would be possible, probably, but knowing apple, I would say that it's HIGHLY unlikely.... apple is very contoling with its sotware, and very stingy with its ports, especially when it's with such a direct competitor like Android... besides, I'm not sure why we would want it anyway, the internal browser is based on the same engine as safari (webkit), so it's highly unlikely that it would perform any better than that anyway...
personally, Im hoping Mozilla changes it's mind about not developing for andoid, but if not, I think I may make Opera my default browser once it comes out of beta... the choppiness is a bit annoying, but the speed just totally makes it worth it to me...
my guess, is that since Windows is still technically on top in the PC market, Apple's way of playing 'catch-up' is to expand their user-base as much as possible by giving people on windows a taste of their products, in hopes of louring them in, and getting them to buy a Mac... but now in terms of the mobile market, no one operating system is still enough of a competitor to the iphone to make Apple consider taking such actions...
and I'm not sure, I hope you're right about mozilla, but the last bit of news I heard in regard to it was that it wasn't coming any time soon: http://androidcommunity.com/mozillas...soon-20081110/
but maybe things changed, so who knows...
also, I'm assuming the speed difference is due mostly to the different rendering engines they use, Opera's is probably not as robust as Android's, and is probably less thorough in reading pages, hence why the internal browser 'feels' smoother, and is capable of zooming out further with higher legibility... now, this is all speculation on my part, but I do believe something like this to be the case. I mean, I dont think Google would deliberately make their browser slow just to annoy their users...
Yea I guess it totaly does makes sense why safari will never be on android. Also I just read that thing about mozilla never coming to android and that got me thinking . What's the point of a open platform ? I thought anything is possible but it seems like a lot of things isn't possible .
well, that's where it gets complicated... things ARE technically possible, it's just when politics (like the safari thing), and convenience (i.e. labor to develop for a new platform) get involved, some options are closed-off initially... the same is true with Linux, and why almost no major companies develop for it (unfortunately)... the thing that gives android hope however, is that it strives to be on numerous handsets, which will (hopefully) eventually make up a rather sizable portion of the handset market, and companies like Mozilla will start taking it more seriously, to the point where they will get over the convenience issues and develop something for it...
this is however, completely ignoring the power of the independant developers, which Im sure is also why so many people like the idea of an 'open-platform,' because anybody can just go and write an app for it, with very few restrictions (especially when compared to how closed-down developing iphone apps is), so there's always potential in that... and ideally, with the platform being so accomodating to independant developers, there will be tons of apps, which will in turn, lure tons of new users, and consequently get the larger development companies to pay more attention
overall, I still think it's wayyy too early to be discussing android's success as an open platorm, especially since it's not even out of beta yet, and is only on one handset... I'd say just to not worry about it, anything is still possible, and everything will probably get a lot smoother/easier as the platform matures anyway, so I say we just see how it plays out...
It's not only about space, but about the fact that most applications in the market that are available for download right now are very beta (to put it kindly) so you never know what a new app is going to do to your OS and how it allocates resources, etc.
When you do the factory reset you not only gain space but a freshly ironed OS.It's worth it and doesn't take that long. The contacts get pulled in really quick once you log back in, but it will not remember custom ringtones and such for them.
if you dont feel like scrolling over on opera mini, try mobile view in settings...
and the factory reset is worth it..im gonna try the texting bookmarks and saving them before doing a hfactory reset.
anyway to make it view normal pages? Not just yahoo mobile.. but like yahoo.com the regualar view?
