open home problems

I have the full paid version of open home...latest version. I have problems, especially after surfing the net via browser with the phone taking forever to switch back to other apps or going back to the home scrren with no icons while you wait for them to pop up. Is there any fix for this or a program that doesn't do this but gives you multiple home screens (only reason I got it)?

Yup, that's open home alright. These are problems we'll all experience from time to time. Even with the default home app, pretty much any time I'd leave the browser, my homescreen and icons would take forever to re-appear. Open home adds the little wrinkle that every once in a while the icons in the app drawer will take a while to appear. These are combinations of hardware issues (namely, not enough RAM on the G1), and bugs in the UI. the nice thing about open home is that the developer releases updates and bug-fixes very frequently, so don't expect these problems to keep causing so much trouble. Still, no one can simply put more RAM on the G1, so don't expect issues like this to go away completely either.

Yes i like the fact that the developers are releasing updates constantly. Not everyone can code a perfect app everytime the first time.

The best thing we can do to help them out is send them detailed bug reports. If you come across something, email the developer. If he doesnt know about it he probably wont fix it....

I have been using Open Home - Full since the day it was released, and personally, I don't find the delays to be much different from the OEM home screen.

I also experience the delays... there are times it does get annoying.

While the original Home would delay when coming out of browser, with Open Home, it seems to do it more often and not just when exiting the browser.

I have noticed that clearing the browser cache reduces or removes the home screen delay. Steel automatically does this.

I found a few problems with the Open Home - Full app as well. Any ideas?

I assume you meant Open and not Better in the above quote.

Yes, you need Better Cut to customize the other shortcut icons.

As for the original thread topic, yes I experience lag too. A little on the default, but a little bit more on Open Home. Doesn't really bother me.

Anyone try the new open home update? It allows you to use ahome skins.

Ive downloaded a couple and it seems to change the icons and wallpaper, but the clock and slider are the default openhome skin. maybe I need to completely uninstall and retry it?
