    Default One-click GPS/3G switchers?

    Hi all,

I have an app on my G1 called wifi switcher. It gives me a one-click toggle for wifi, which is very useful.

I was wondering if there are similar apps for GPS and 3G? I've tried "better switchers" and "toggle settings", and they're great but they both take me to the settings pages where I can make the change. This requires a few too many clicks for my liking!

If there's no app, if there any way of making a shortcut directly to that setting e.g. with anycut or bettercut? I see in anycut there is a way of making your own shortcut, but I can't figure out how to point that to the relevant GPS/3G toggle.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Regards,

    Lee

    I use
GPS Toggle Widget (does what it says, occupies 1 cell space on the screen, just like an icon). I have it right on the home screen.

Ringer Toggle Widget (same dimensions as GPS Toggle, cycles between ringer on, vibrate only and silent modes)

Bluetooth Toggle Widget, same as GPS Toggle but for bluetooth.

These widgets don't take you to the settings, they are one tap widgets to toggle these settings. Very handy. I'm sure you can find a similar one for 3G as well.

    Hi,

Thanks for the info, but GPS toggle widget still requires 2 clicks (1st click takes me to the settings page, where I can click "enable GPS satelites").

There is an app called ToggleGPS, which appears to be what I'm looking for. i.e. shortcut on home screen, clicking brings up a "enabling GPS" message, but it doesn't seem to work properly. I'm using cupcake (USA).

I haven't been able to find anything similar for 2G/3G.

    Thanks anyway.

I had one but from what I have read recently, I believe that the 1.5 update actually prevents the widgets from actually toggling the GPS setting. The best you can do - at this point - is have a widget that takes you to the settings page and click it manually.

I don't know if there is a fix in the pipeline for this or not. There was a post on one of the android forums yesterday debating keeping GPS active as long as you don't have a program accessing it - like maps, locale, etc - then it won't drain the battery so there is no need to toggle it on and off.

I am currently in day 1 of my battery monitoring test with GPS active to see if this is true.

I'm just on the OTA update version of cupcake, so maybe that's the problem (!).

Thanks for the info - looks like I'm stuck with an extra click until either google fixes it or I get frustrated and stick a different rom on...

    Thanks,

I believe the behavior was changed in cupcake because it was security risk.

Since the gps can be used to track your exact location, giving an application the ability to enable it automatically poses a security risk.

    I suppose that makes sense...

But why the 2G/3G switcher too?
