A question for the legal eagles is:

If I have a nokia phone with OVI maps I have a license to use the maps, so if I use the maps on another device is this still legal?
It would seem to be like being able to copy a music CD to keep the original stored away in pristine condition, I understand that this is legal because you are still only using one copy of the information which you have purchased.

The OVI Maps (offline) won't work outside symbian, because the OVI Maps application is not available for others like Android or iOS.

I use 1:50000 topographic maps. Oruxmaps is the app I use. I convert my scanned topo maps to .png format, calibrate them with the oruxmaps desktop app and it makes small sql lite database files which the android app uses. It has multiple levels for zoom in and out and the with the gps on my samsung s2 incredibly accurate.
I use the program in flight mode (no cell signal) when on hikes in the veld. We have a lot of rural areas with no cell signal here in South Africa.
When hiking I have found my topo maps with Oruxmaps very useful. The waypoints and track features are spot on accurate and battery life reasonably good offline.

New offline maps were launched on Android Market recently - MapsWithMe. All countries are included. GPS tracking. Very fast app. https://market.android.com/details?i...apswithme.maps

People, your google maps caches whatever you want, as much as your card can hold, and then you can use it totally offline. I am not understanding what it is you are looking for...

At this point I have 17MB of cached maps on my Google maps, and it gives me about 28,000 sqr miles of data-less navigation... Why do you want to waste money when you have a perfectly good app that does it all and is integrated in our phones?

G-Maps 6.1.0 has all that covered plus MUCH more...

No need for any more 3rd party apps.
