Hi guys. I'm planning to buy Samsung Jet/Galaxy, is there a way to install a GPS app, so that we don't exactly have to use the internet?
Thanks in advanced! =]
There is an app called AndNav2. It has the ability to pull the maps from the net and save them for offline use.
There were actually two apps. The original AndNav operated more like Google Maps, and didn't provide car-like navigation, with TTS and turn-by-turn prompts. AndNav2 incorporates this functionality and allows the Android device to act more or less as a car nav unit.
I think they just recently extended support for the US also. I used it today and have had decent results in Florida.

there is also bigplanet that does a map caching app.

I saw TeleNav nominated as the best GPS navigation app by the Android Network. (this is their blog page where it is posted: http://blog.telenav.com/blog/2009/08...etwork-awards/). Should I get this service or is some other service like Google Maps available? Thanks for the help.
yes they have released it for android but only for a specific phone in the Netherlands (may be wrong on location here) on a specific carrier .......... there is a cracked version available online but i doubt i am allowed to post it
it's a shame really it's one of those apps that's a must purchase but yet you cant
If you are handy with a computer, try OruxMaps. You can use TrekBuddy to create maps for the area you want and download them. I used the maps I created in a recent trip to Europe, and they are great.
Only problem: the GPS sucks with no cell towers around - the GPS gets its initial position from the cell towers, and without them it takes several minutes to get a position. This is truly stupid, since the GPS could simply use your last GPS position as a starting point and be spot on 99% of the time.
I ended up using the maps to guide myself through twisting city streets of an old town without the GPS. [This is NOT a deficiency in OruxMaps.]
mapdroyd is my current fave.

I use AndNav2, but it kinda sucks. It's open source now, but I don't see any apks, so I'm not sure if we're suppose to compile it ourselves or what. There's also OsmAnd, which has apks http://code.google.com/p/osmand/ and mapdroyd http://www.mapdroyd.com/ , etc.
