From my understanding, the G1 IS capable of supporting multi-touch, but it's the property of App-hoe so it won't be anything out-the-box regarding this.
Sooo my question, when folks figure out how to get multi-touch working on this device, how will it be pulled off? Would it be done on a per-app basis for applications that would be good for this (zooming on web browser, zooming in a picture viewer), or would someone come up with a general API for something like this so any application could incorperate general rules & guidelines for multi-touching?
Interested to hear more thoughts about this, especially from any devs/potential devs who's as curious as I am![]()
hmmm good question, but I think that it just depends on the developer. Im sure there will be multiple apps. of stuff that does the same thing maybe just a little different. So there will probably be a few apps that do everything you said

Divorcing Blackberry for Android....
I'm confused by this question and why everyone is answering it like they are. Do you mean Android when you say G1 or is there something about the G1 that I'm not aware of?
The G1 is capable of multi touch, they couldent put it in the phone because of apple, however it is able to be developed.

The G1 is >NOT< capable of Multi-touch... it is a serious concern for the hardware itself. HOWEVER, the Google Android API >has< the multi-touch option to it... so any manufacturer can easily integrate it.
It will be impossible for any developer to integrate a multi-touch application on the G1... sorry.
I dont think your right on this, Ill search and search till I find where I read that it is being developed. Ill be back with what I find

i thought it was the same company that made the G1's screens as the ones that made the iPhone's screen... so there fore the G1 did have the ability to have multi-touch, but Apple owns the patents for that... .or something. haha.
You have it backwards. They removed the multi-touch APIs from Android. The hardware on the G1, as far as anybody knows, should support it. (BTW, does anybody know for sure what screen the G1 is using??)
Android support for integrating multi touch gestures was removed because of IP issues. They will most likely be added back at some point, but for now its a CYA move...
