App Name: Meebo IM
Author: Meebo(.com)
Price: Free
Version: 1Meebo is a totally free IM program that supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, Jabber and ICQ. You can even sign on using the same Meebo account that you use at http://www.meebo.com/. If you use a Meebo account, your IM history will be saved so that you can access it from any computer by logging in at http://www.mebo.com
Size: 138kb
Basic review:
To begin with, you are gretted with the very attractive Meebo "Instant messaging everywhere" login screen. If you already have a meebo account (free, http://www.meebo.com ), you can sign in with that username, and all of your IM services are already setup.
[I already have Meebo setup for myself, and have used it for a couple years now with no problems what-so-ever. The great thing about having a Meebo account, instead of signing on to each service, is that one Meebo account will automatically sign you in to all your services that you have setup. Also, with an account, all of your IMs are logged and saved so that you can go back to the website from any computer and find something you need.]
But you don't have to sign in with a Meebo account. You can sign in to whatever services you choose at the time. After signing in to your first service, simply click Menu, and tap "Sign on more".
Pros:
- All IM services work via your data connection, so all of you who don't pay for unlimited text messages - this is a money saver, for sure.
- I have been using it for about an hour now, with little activity, and have stayed signed in. That isn't to say that it will never kick you, but it's definitely working better than the standard AIM client, at least.
- Very clean layout. Almost boring, but not quite.
- As with most IM clients, contacts are sorted into your pre-defined groups, and offline contacts are in their own group that you can collapse.
- The contacts screen shows all of your contacts together, with a service icon (the AIM dood, the Y! logo, etc) next to their neame, as well as their buddy icon.
Cons:
- I've gotten some reports that this client also closes when Android needs it to, thereby signing out of your services...
- There doesn't seem to be a way to close your recent conversations. Your conversations are grouped at the top, and you can collapse the group, but there doesn't seem to be any way of actually "ending" a conversation.
- The conversation window leaves a little to be desired... It does slightly cross the boundary of "clean" and slips into "boring"... But it's not horrible.
- It does not save your login information after you sign out... You must completely re-enter your credentials.
Compare it to:
The IM client built into Android:
- I still prefer the google talk client to this one. But for all the other services, this is better. And it lets you connect to others that the built-in one does not (Jabber, ICQ).
IM+
- The UI is much better - more organized, cleaner. Connection stability seems just as good if not better. I definitely prefer this to IM+

Great Stuff. I'll be downloading it soon thenThank you Amigo.
great review i luv the meebo its fast only something bother like no away or invisible for aim
I've caught android fever =]
Yeah I'm liking it for sure
but it still needs:
1) Audio alert options- in and out of convo mode, and if you are disconnected
2) Show nicknames
3) Smileys
4) Visual alert if you are disconnected (status bar icon)
and like you said- saving the login (pass is option)
Great review. Good job. Btw i own you in Call Of Duty 4![]()
nice review. Loads up much faster, and I can actually see all of my buddies right away. The biggest issue I had with the G1's IM, is that I always got kicked off AIM. Well, I just checked and Meebo kicked me off AIM. damn!
cant wait! the aim and stuff was a big concern for me while awaiting this fone frm wht i heard.. bt now its lookn all good :]
Seems to disconnect when I use the call end key to shut off my screen. Does this not happen if you let the screen just turn off by being idle?
