    Default Locale: My Thoughts

I really like this app- it works quite nicely.

    When it works.

Lately, it doesnt seem to be checking the GPS location enough to switch my settings in a timely manner. I always have to manually pull up the app to get it to detect&switch.

Wish it had a setting to increase the GPS scanning.. not sure how its working now, but it seems it sometimes waits a flippin hour to scan for location.

    Anybody else having this issue?

Are the developers still supporting it, or is it a dead issue?

there is another app called GPS Tracker (i think) that tracks your location and sends it to a web service (good if your phone is lost or stolen). within its settings you can configure intervals at which it refreshes your location. i keep this app active all the time (loads at startup automatically) and by changing the refresh interval to 300 seconds i know that my GPS should be accurate at least every 5 minutes. for me using this app seems to have helped locale stay updated. btw, you can change the interval to anything you like 1sec, 1000sec, whatever you like.

I use locale to silence my phone when i get to school. Works perfectly and I never even have GPS enabled (but using cell-towers for location is enabled). It may not be completely accurate as to the radius i set it for, but whenever i look at my phone when i get to school, it is silenced and there is a notification telling me that i'm at school.

Is the phone able to get your location through the case and your pocket, or how are you carrying it around? I ask, because, when I installed Locale I carried it around in my pocket and it never updated my location. When I got home and walked the dogs and took out my phone, it would tell me I was home. It never got that I was at work or church or the movies.

I might have to try the GPS Tracker that was mentioned.

Haveing GPS enabled will not help you guys out if your indoors. Your going to have to use the triangulation feature to find your location based on towers or wifi. Also haveing GPS check every 300secs or sooner then that will cause your battery drain like crazy.
cant put this damn phone down...

Do you think GPS Tracker can help save battery life so you keep the GPS refresh rate low, unless you need it high (ie. while driving). Maybe this will help to also increase the amount of time the battery lasts since the GPS is not always searching...

I have actually been in contact with the developer of locale quite often. They usually reply within the same day, but sometimes it takes a day or two. Also, did you know that there is a new version of Locale in the market? New versions of apps don't always bubble to the top anymore, and Locale is one of them. I went through the entire app list yesterday and updated sixteen apps on my phone that I did not know had been updated. The deveoper email address is cases@locale.fogbugz.com

I'll check to see if I have the latest Locale version. I think i do.

I emailed them yesterday and they said it should check GPS every 10 minutes. Don't think mine is doing that.

They should have an option io increase the checking if you want it.

Triagulation location is not an option for me, as its WAY off where I am. miles off.
