    Default Latitude Sometimes Takes Days to Update

    My wife and I both have G1's.

    Mine is modded running JF1.42 with caches moved and 100+ apps as well as about 3GB of music, a couple of movies, and Debian installed running X. About the only thing I haven't done is move my apps to the SD card....mostly because I only have a class 4 card.

    My wife's G1 is bone stock, with all of about two apps installed.

    We both run latitude with permissions set so we can both see each other's position. But I've noticed that while my position updates about once an hour, hers will sometimes take hours, and even days between updating the position.

    I tend to turn my phone off every night, but she uses hers for business and keeps it up and running pretty much 24/7.

    Right now, if I look her up in latitude, it shows the last time her position was updated was March 10th.....that's seven days ago! Mine says 26 minutes ago.

    Any thoughts as to what's going on?

    My theory is that whatever background process handles Latitude updates is easily susceptible to being killed by the memory manager and does not restart itself.

    I think the built-in Music Player is particularly likely to kill the Latitude process, as I have noticed that it will work fine all weekend but as soon as I leave for work it stops updating and the last known position is at home. Coincidentally I always listen to MP3s on the way to work.

    Also, note that in any case as soon as you launch Map/Latitude on the handset, it starts updating again, so if you are frequently checking your wife's position via the phone you will keep your own location up to date as a side effect. I always check if mine is working by going to the iGoogle widget in my desktop browser.

    I believe Latitude also starts back up when you reboot.

    Same thing with me and my brother, but I'm checking mine way more often. If I got a day or two without checking it my brother says it won't update on his phone.

    be sure that you have a location source turned on.

    Menu -> Settings -> Security & location

    Then have Use wireless networks or Enable GPS satellites checked

    Or maybe she just doesn't want you to know where she is

    even with all that on it doesn't work all the time. Its new so I guess these kinds of bugs is sort of expected although it sort of defects the concept

    i'm pretty sure latitude only updates when you open the maps application. if she rarely opens it, it will rarely update!

    My experience says the same thing. The more often you open maps and check your location then the more often it updates.
