Keyboard is slow

I hate the iPhone and my brother's smug face when he uses it, but his keyboard is much smoother than mine. I've tried stock and better keyboard, but both of those lag on my mytouch. Any other replacement app or suggestion to get that working more smoothly?

I am guessing he has the 3GS? 1st gen and 3G iphones were both a little laggy with the keyboard; the 3GS is when it started getting smooth.

1st thing I would do is kill most of the background processes that you aren't using; try downloading Advanced Task Killer and see what is running.

As for a replacement keyboard- you may be running into a processing power issue. I have the droid and the virtual keyboard ran Ok; I have a custom ROM and overclocked and it is much easier to work (but still no multi-touch for the virtual KB!).

You can try a download of SetCPU and see if the MyTouch can be overclocked- but I think you need root access to use it.

Next step would be to get a Nexus One...
