its not push email except for gmail. It's fetch you have to check you email to see if anyhting new is in there it will not just force it out to you.
I understand that the gMail app on the G1 phone generates new email notifications in the title bar, but from what I've been reading the POP/IMAP email app doesn't seem to do this.
Question: Has anyone received an email notification for the POP/IMAP email application?
I ask this, because it is critical that I get email notifications if I'm going to switch from my current Moto-Q phone (Windows Mobile OS) to the G1 phone. I really want to switch, but I need to get email notifications for POP and IMAP accounts.
Thanks.

So, is there an option to have the POP/IMAP email app periodically check for new email, and if such exists place an email notification icon in the title bar? That's how it works with Windows Mobile devices. So it's a "pull" operation verses "push".
Thanks.

plus make sure after you set up the emails you set the frequency to whatever (I have all mines on 1hr intervals) seems to work fine...but it sucks if you get new emails in multiple accounts it'll just say "new email 2 accounts" without saying which.
Also hate how there is no message preview or at least sender info when it comes to new gmails.
"I'm shocked at the diversity of the people psyched for the G1. All different people united...under Android"
So, you are saying that you ARE getting new email notifications with the POP/IMAP email app? That's my main question-- are people getting notifications or not.
I've read numerous postings where users are saying they are NOT getting email notifications for their POP mail, so that was worrying me...
Thanks.
Not getting notification of any of the 3 email accounts I have set up.
Have them all set to check at 30 min intervals. The only way they ever show a notification is if I open up the browser and surf, then they go and check the accounts. If I dont manually connect by using the browser, they never update. I also had all 3 of the accounts disappear at one point. Had to go back in and set them back up.
This is extremely annoying.

5 years and running.... Still looking for the perfect phone. History: HTC MDA,SDA,Wing,TytnII, G1, Samsung i780,G1 (Cupcake),MT3G, now rocking my new Cliq !!
Yes, the email app notifies just like the gmaiil one does, except it has to check for and pull the emails down. Notifications are not working for POP email, but seem to work fine for IMAP. Highly recommended to download K-9 from the market for non-gmail email.

I've got K9 installed on the Android Emulator and I can send and receive messages ok using my Comcast email setup. I've set the frequency interval to 5 mins, but I still am not getting any email notifications.
Question: If K9 is not running, is there some background service that is checking emails at the set intervals? Or, do you need to have K9 running to "get" new emails?

Are you using POP or IMAP on there? Notifications just don't work on POP at all, from what I've seen. Since switching my email to IMAP, I get notifications. I do not have to have K-9 running. Perhaps it needs to have BEEN run at some point? I have noticed that there may be a period of time after which it stops checking mail? To explain: If I have been using the phone, and hit home, to get the the home screen, then end call to put it in standby, and put it in my pocket, I will still get notifications just fine. But if I don't get any emails for a while (say, half an hour?), then I get a new email, it will not notify me until next time I use the phone. Usually, I'll just pull it out, hit menu twice to "wake it up" and pretty much instantly get a notification. I don't know if that's because the network is going to sleep completely after a while, the service to check for emails goes to sleep after a while, or if it's just flakiness that I am worngly attributing to have something to do with this. But that has been my experience.
