I know there are a few people out there having trouble getting Tunes Remote to work. So I made this guide on how to do it, its for Windows XP, but should also work in Mac OSX.
Here is how to do it:
Make sure you have a wireless router and that it is turned on. Some people don't realize you need to be connected to a wireless network in order for this program to work.
On your computer:
First off, you need to find out your IP address. You can find out what it is at: http://www.whatismyip.com
You will see a section that says "Your IP address is..." Make sure you write down the numbers including the periods (Note: save this for later).
Next, open iTunes. Navigate your way to EDIT > PREFERENCES > SHARING.
Make sure "Look for shared libraries," "Share my library on my local network," and "Share entire library" are checked.
Also, make sure "Require password" is checked. In the empty box next to it, type a 4-digit number. (Note: you will use this number later on, so remember it.)
On your T-mobile G1:
Navigate your way to MENU > SETTINGS > WIRELESS CONTROLS > Wi-Fi
Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled and connected to your home network, or the same network your using for the internet.
You can double check this by going to MENU > SETTINGS > WIRELESS CONTROLS > Wi-Fi SETTINGS
And look under Wi-Fi NETWORKS to see if you're connected to the right wireless router.
Next, if you already haven't done so, download and install TunesRemote. Open TunesRemote.
Click MENU > MANUAL ADD
Remember that IP address from earlier? Okay now enter it (all the numbers and periods) in the box that says "IP address".
Next, enter that 4-digit number from earlier into the box that says "Pairing Code".
Now, click CONNECT.
Read the on-screen instructions that come up after that.
You should see the name "Android Device" pop up under "Devices" on the left hand side of your the iTunes program you have running on your computer. Click "Android Device" then enter the 4-digit code from earlier. Then click "OK"
Next, on your T-Mobile G1, click MENU, then the rest is easy to figure out.
You're all done! Enjoy!

Nice write up -- Thanks.
You could just use GMote.
Install one file. Set a password, get on your Wi-Fi network, and you should be able to access your files.
Sub for laterz
I love this program, BUT I'm having a really annoying problem. It connects fine, however if I don't use the remote for a little while, it keeps prompting me to enter in "0000" in iTunes. This is quite annoying since going back to my PC kind of defeats the entire purpose of this app. Anyone know how to resolve this?
I'm goin crazy! I have done everything that I could to make tunes remote work to no avail. I followed these directions... nothin. I tried gmote and I don't like it. I tried the ip address I got from the website and the ip address I got from ip config. Is there anyone that would be willing to help me?

I was having the same issue as well. I got all the way up to the pairing part where the <android> option should show up w/in iTunes and prompt me for the pairing code, but it didn't.
On a whim, I decided to /release and /renew my IP address via the command prompt and that finally worked for me. Many ways to go about doing this, this is one of em:
Start->run->cmd <enter>
-a black dos window should appear at this point, from the command line type
ipconfig /release <enter>
ipconfig /renew <enter>
I'm am so frustrated! I tried to ipconfig/renew and /release and nothin... The farthest I'm able to get is to the tunes remote pairing screen on my G1 that says "pairing with library". Again I tried with both ip addresses (one starting with 198.168 and the other 97.115). What am I doin wrong?!
