GMote is safe to install!

This is an app I read about somewhere (I'm forgetful when it comes to these things) and was anxiously awaiting it's arrival on the market. Due to impatience I contacted the developers (see http://groups.google.com/group/gmote...4c56d6510cd8da) and confirmed that it would work with the GA release of Android. I have installed it on my G1 and it works without a hitch. For those of you don't know what the heck it is, see the below excerpt from their FAQ:


What is Gmote (Android Remote)?

Gmote turns your Android phone into a remote control for your computer, allowing you to start and control movies and music at a distance. It supports all of the standard remote control features such as play, pause, rewind, volume controls etc. It also has a built-in file browser that lets you view the files that are on your computer and select what you want to play.

It's great if you want to sit back while watching a DVD, or control the flow of songs in your favorite playlist.



I like it, its fun to play with, its fun to screw with the roommate (random screams from my room while I'm out on the porch (Halloween soundtracks rock)) and I could see it being useful as well. For more information, http://www.gmote.org

I had to manually enter my IP and allow the app in my firewall. It will suck later on since my IP is dynamic.

No screen tilting implemented. But overall very impressive

It's not on the market.

Anyway, the first time around, the password prompt remained in the prtraid mode even though I open the keyboard. I got kicked off, 2nd time around it worked like a charm. No biggie anyway.

Going back and forth between the player and browse can become slightly annoying. I don't have an idea how this could be improved.

It's weird to see my desktop in ghost mode. No player window is open yet my comp is playing songs and videos left and right, adjusting the volume and so forth.
