Default Flash Player (not again) and Manual Install

I hate to kill this thing since I know it will become available soon anyways, but has anyone ever tried to install the Linux version of Adobe Flash Player on their G1 phone? Is it not possible to open a shell and unpack the tar file and install? I am thinking about trying it out but don't have the time to mess with it... yet

I fear that it will brick my phone, then again it is a Linux based operating system so that can't really happen >gulp<, right?

As far as I understand it, packages for Linux would be bytecode complied for x86/x64 and the G1/Android needs stuff compiled for the Java/Davalik VM, tho we do have a linux kernel. If there were a version of Flash written for Java (which makes about zero sense), that might run once recompiled in Eclipse, if I've got it straight in my n00b mindz

So you're saying that the G1 has a Java processor?-lol I haven't dived into programming for the G1 just yet, but I would imagine that there is a C[++] (I hates C) compiler of some sort maybe just not available to us plain folks But if they write Flash Player in Java then they would be enabling it for a lot of people out there on various phones. Bad news is, I think this will take a very long time to do

No I think each application runs inside of a virtual machine that is java-based. It's not a java processor. They did this I believe to ensure that application developers do not have easy access to really low level stuff that could easily break your phone with one wrong step. Also, I think it keeps poorly written apps from wreaking havok on your phone.

Short answer: the linux compiles of flash won't work.

But I want Flash NOW!!! Guess there's no crying (face) on androidcommunity.com

Well, I can hardly wait. But I really can't complain, it could be worse after all. Imagine if javascript wasn't enabled!!! AWWW!!!!

It would be interesting to try and load the linux version of flash after that new update comes out in January. I think it's supposed to handle bytecode but I might be wrong.
