    Default droidWake

Been playing with this wake-on-lan app for a few days and find it great. However, i'm only able to wake up my pc if i send a magic packet with droidWake within about 5 minutes of shutting the system down. I'm 100% sure this is a pc issue (router logs show the magic packet is recieved and sent to computer), does anyone know why i've only got this 5 minute(ish) window to wake up my machine?

Well try doing the same on a different pc. That way you can make figure out if its your networking card that is accting up on your first pc . Also make sure that the wake on lan is indeed turned on.

    good luck

    Hiya,

the reason for this is that WOL uses the MAC entries on your router, and these are flushed after a while.

You will need to enter into your router (probably on the CLI) a static IP address assignment for the MAC address of your machine, this will mean that even after a flush there will be an address in the ARP table for your machine.

Also you will probably be able to port forward to this static entry as well from your WAN port, which means you can wake your machine up from the wider internet.

Take a look at www.logmein.com for a great vnc type app to use once awake

    cheers
