Yes, there are more than 1 app that will do this. The one that I can recall the name is GPS Tracker.
If you want to find more, then just browse through the Applications --> Tools section. I believe the others are in there.
Hi guys, I've searched cyrket and I've searched one here (the search on here it terrible and brings up nearly every thread no matter what word(s)you put in!)
I'm after an app that I can use if I lose my phone.
I don't leave GPS turned on as the battery is bad enough as it is so I need an app that can remotely turn GPS on and then send me the location of the phone and also maybe allow me to change some settings on the phone so it stays locked or generally cannot be used
any ideas?

thank you, does this allow GPS to be turned on remotely?
Yes, you can activate the GPS by send your phone a specific SMS. Its a great app I use it as well.
I've installed it and set up a "template" on my wifes phone
thanks
Erm - this isn't entirely true.
If the GPS is turned off in the settings, and you have Cupcake, then apps can't turn the GPS on. This is a new security feature of Cupcake.
The best any app can do with GPS toggling and Cupcake, is bringing up the settings screen to allow the user to manually enable/disable it themselves.
However, apps are now much more GPS friendly, and most apps that use the GPS but don't really need to (such as ShopSavvy - course location from cell towers is absolutely fine for this) have the option to turn it off. As such, there's very little reason to disable the GPS in the settings now. Just keep the GPS enabled and your Find-My-Phone app will work just fine.
are you joking?
my battery doesn't even last 12 hours with GPS turned off, that's a MASSIVE reason to never turn it on!
The GPS uses no more power when it's turned off, than when it's turned off (yes, I meant to write that).
Android powers down the GPS when it's not being explicitly used by an application. So, if no applications are using the GPS, the GPS is turned off.
The GPS is only actually on when the GPS icon is displayed in the notification bar at the top of the screen.
Sure, if you've got the Maps app in the foreground all of the time, or there's some other app using it, the GPS will drain your battery. Most decent apps have settings for this, or don't need to be running all of the time, or if they do need to be running all of the time then it's the type of app that needs GPS.
I have my GPS on all of the time (in the settings), but I only ever see the GPS actually being used (the icon displayed) on very rare occasions... usually when I'm running an app that obviously needs it.
Exactly like mentioned up above. My GPS setting has never been turned off since I've owned the phone. The problem with GPS is the apps that use it and fire it up. If your not using maps or other apps it will not physically activate the GPS so it wont drain your battery. A normal work day for me is 8am to 430pm and at the end of the day I have easily 60-70% battery and when I goto bed I normally have 40% or better.
Just keep in mind no matter what GPS app you find if its deep in a building the GPS wont give you an accurate reading anyways. I personally use GPS Tracker http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.in...per.gpstracker
