Default does the G1 have a text-to-speech app?

I am thinking about buying a G1 phone. Still doing so research.

Is there a text-to-speech app out there for the G1? If the is:
    A) What is it called, and where can I find it?
    B) If you have used it, what do you think about it?

I still have not found the App Market for the G1. I searched the AC and found several posts mentioning a T2S app, but I could find a link to it.

Thanks for your help. A good T2S app will seal the deal for me.

its not really an app, it is a library for other apps to use. In the market app select "software Libraries" then look for "TTS", download and install. then the app you want to have text-2-speech you download. Example, "AndNavBeta2, this app will use the voice from TTS, there is another app called "my bubble" which uses the TTS library, however it has been bugging ever since the multilingual update for TTS

Basically the library is out there, its just waiting for a developer to create an application to use the TTS library. Again since this is android the possibilities are endless regarding what can be used with the TTS library.

Hang tight, i hear that the app market is out of beta testing this starting January 1st
cant put this damn phone down...

I did not create the T2S library, but I am working on an app (and have a couple other ideas) that uses the T2S library, and it seems fairly straightforward. Now if I could only get my SD image work right..

It's simple enough that if you were thinking about developing for Android but worried about not being able to jump right in -- try it, you'll like it!

Also, doesn't And2Nav use that library?

Yes those are all good suggestions, but the best text-to-speech application is:

    POLYGLOTZ

    =]

Pretty accurate and useful for english, especially if you're sick and can't use your voice.

Thanks all. What I gathered is that there is not really a set list of software out there yet; but Android does have the basic ability to read text. Thats good enough for me.

I was a little worried. I mainly want a G1 to use as mini PC (I know, not the best device for that. I have a good feeling about it, and think it will be able to handle what I want it to do.) when Im out and about. I hate to read. If G1 can read me to me all (or at least most) emails, web sites, forums, etc, then I am sold.

    Thanks.

WikiTap supports it. It can speak whatever word you type. There are several others too. There's a translator program that can speak what you type.

I think cerburos is looking for complete OS-level integration of a TTS library. I think this is a LONG ways off. And if it's delivered by a 3rd party, it'll eat away at your battery life like crazy.

You may want to go over to Windows Mobile if you're looking to have everything read to you. There's several solutions for what you want already.

    Or get a mac.

Thumbs up Re: does the G1 have a text-to-speech app?

    1. Set Polyglotz to translate from "English" to "English"
    2. Type your phrase
    3. Hit the the speech button
    4. It speaks the words in a (female) computer voice.

There's your T2S! It stores your input words or phases, so you could put in common phrases.
