To rephrase, all I am looking for is to be able to view a KML or KMZ map on my android phone and see my location on that map.
I've made a map of my own that combines aerial imagery with other data, and I'd like to be able to view this map on my G1 Android phone and see my location on this map that I made.
I have the option to export this map to files of formats like .bmp, jpg tiff, pdf, and a few more similar to that. Nothing like kmz though. Perhaps I would be able to convert the image to a kmz file. Is there a custom gps map viewer app like this available?
Thanks for your help.

You might want to contact some of the developers on the market who are working with GPS and maps
Or try the android application forum at xda.
If you don't find anything here. I've not seen anything of that nature but I haven't been looking either honestly since Google maps does all I need
Good idea, I'll try XDA, thanks.
There is such an app. In fact, that is why I am skimming through this forum today. I am trying to find it. lol
Okay, back in December, my wife's phone plan was eligible for upgrade, and I was annoying her to get droid. I get mine on Feb 18th, yay.
So I start searching the web for apps, just to be ready. I was looking for map apps, as I collect maps (I know, but I am old), and my wife and I geocache.
I found one that was a paid app, that allows you to take a photo of a map, the demonstration was of a board mounted map of a state park. Then you tell the app exactly where on the photo you are. Then walk some distance, the farther, the better for accuracy, and then click on that point on the map.
Now you have a scaled, oriented park map that your icon moves around on. I couldn't wait to get it, as the Massachusetts Parks department has some great maps of every park, and there are always copies at every park.
I forgot all about it when the wife got her Droid, as we haven't done any Geocaching as it is a bit cold yet.
I have been searching for the last 4 hours and can not find it.
So, keep looking, it is out there. Post here if you find it, and I will do the same.
MapCalibrator on Android Market is a basic version of what you're looking for.
