i'm going to be writing a review on one v. the other if things go according to planned this weekend...

i've noticed that Compare Everywhere (for me) finds the local things and displays actual local stores and Shop Savvy has better online prices, but doesn't find local stores for me for some reason.

Here is how they are the same: all three use the zxing library to decode barcodes, under the hood. Barcode Scanner is simply the generic, plain-vanilla client from that project. (I am a developer.)

CompareEverywhere and ShopSavvy focus on 1D (UPC-A and EAN-13) decoding and build a fantastic UI around this, and comparison shopping. They are far better than Barcode Scanner for this use case.

Barcode Scanner however does enable all the barcode formats that zxing supports: QR Code, Data matrix (coming), Code 128, Code 39, EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E. As such it does some additional stuff, mostly with 2D formats like QR Codes: when it scans a code that encodes contact inforation for instance, it lets you add it automatically to your addressbook. A geolocation opens the maps application.

    what am i doing wrong?

i scanned several items with both and only 3 items were found in the database, 1 showed the wrong item and maybe 20 were not found at all.

FYI- here is another thread about shopsavvy issues: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f...hopsavvy-4547/
