I decided to check out Google Docs on my G1 to see if it was a viable solution to the "no office suite" problem. Apparently, it defaulted to the mobile version of the site, which allowed you to read all your documents but make no changes.
I was all prepared to ask how one could force the browser to go to the normal, functional version of Docs as opposed to the mobile version, but then I went to Zhura (which is a Google Docs-like service for screenplays and scripts, complete with Gears support) and discovered why. I went to edit a script and the entire page displayed flawlessly. However, no matter how many times I tapped on or trackballed in the direction of the big text box, it would not select.
I have to wonder, what's the big issue with rich text boxes on the web with the Android Browser? Are they really that big of a drain on resources? If the browser can stream all the interfaces and gets 72/100 on Acid3 (which is a ridiculously higher score than the Docs-compatible IE8, and IE7's score isn't even legible), I don't see why it can't do Google Docs and other sites' rich text boxes.

Really, now? I wasn't aware that we were only allowed to discuss the things about Android which make bunny rabbits and rainbows materialize. After all, Google probably has all sorts of automated scripts using their very own database to determine what people all over the web are saying about Android, and we wouldn't want to make them feel like there's a particular thing we're interested in having improved or changed. That just wouldn't be nice.
Let's all hold hands and sing songs about how cute and cuddly Android is.
And you guys sit here and get mad over an internet comment lol
It's not that we get mad over comments. We get mad over the idea that we're looking to turn to a forum looking for people to share ideas about an OS we're excited about, and find it filled with douchebags instead. Kind of a letdown.
Every day I'm forced to battle attention deficit disor...oh look, a squirrel!
I could comment on the hypocrisy present in what you just said, but A) it's obvious to everyone else and B) you probably don't care.
Anyway, I'm gonna pretend I'm a moderator for a second and ask that we get this back on topic. Who has an opinion or some light to shed on the AJAX/text editing situation?
