Multi-touch support will never be available for the HTC G1. The hardware does not support it. It isn't a matter of software or browser updates. On a side note, flash or silverlight support may be available at some time.
maybe one wit multi touch support?
flash would be nice also and cleaner look..

Divorcing Blackberry for Android....
whats's wrong with the web browser we have now? and btw firefox just might be making its way to the android![]()
The web browser that comes preloaded is freaking awesome, IMO. Better than any other mobile web browser I've ever used. The ability to open multiple windows is very nice too. We just need to get flash support built in, but I'm sure that will come with an app download.
Looked at acouple of app sites and seems that a port of Opera Mini is working on an Android Emulated system.
Would be curious to compare the default (mini-Chrome?) browser vs. Opera Mini & see how they run vs. each other. Might find out when I get mines on Wed. Most important thing will be flash and I don't think even Opera Mini addresses this... so we still wait alittle bit :\
Spring is upon us! Woo hoo!!
Its not hardware its software, the T-Mobile G1 is using Synaptics Clearpad capacitive screen, so the hardware does support multi-touch, its only the android OS that doesn't support it(probably IP related).

Aha!! Finally some clearer information regarding the specific Synaptics touchscreen in the G1... A quick search around the interwebs confirms Synaptics themselves have stated that the G1 is using the Clearpad. =D
This is good news indeed! I've been looking for such a confirmation...
Of course to actually use the multi-touch sensing capabilities that the G1's hardware may have, a custom API and likely a custom driver would (may) be required.
In other words, we're gonna have to wait until the rest of the platform besides the application layer is open sourced.
EDIT: I can't help but salivate over the thought of multi-touch G1...

Meow.
So far as I can tell, from playing with the Android SDK, the only thing that is lacking is that touch events that are fired off simply need to be able to report more than a single mouse location. Of course, it is nondeterministic as long as the full source code is still unreleased, but just from a developers perspective, it wouldn't make any sense to cripple the low-level interface that Synaptics provided.
Google may not want to test the legal waters in regards to Apple's claims over multitouch, but one way or another, I'm pretty sure multitouch is coming to the G1.
it will come (thats what she said)
